“I’m a unique individual”
I believe I’m unique because I was a Marine and Marines make up .06% of the population in the United States of America. Being in the Marines changed me and the way I think, I went from undisciplined to disciplined, cowardly to courageous. I learned how to lead people, train people, and inspired people. I know what it’s like to go to war, and to not have a break from work for 8 months straight. I know what it’s like to work 16-20 hour days in 110 degrees in the summer and 0 degrees days in the winter. I’ve had 2,000 pounds of vehicle armor (belly pan) fall on my finger and didn’t break one.
The time I spent in Afghanistan was an experience that is hard to explain. It was good, bad, fun, miserable, thrilling, and boring. Life in Afghanistan was work every day of the week, long hours with no incentives to work hard, but you worked hard anyways. The only time we didn’t work hard was when the sand storms hit because you could not see an arms length in front of you. It’s impossible to breath in the storm. The sand is everywhere and gets all over you. The weather depending on the time of year could be hot as hell or cold as a Michigan winter day.
I grew up in an environment that was bad, but not as bad as it could have been. My father was abusive and a drunk and still is a drunk. I saw in him everything I never wanted to be and I set out to do that by finishing school and joining the military. I wanted the intangibles the Marines offered me and they gave to me, but it was not easy and it’s not for the weak willed. I fought through the despair that happens in boot camp. I never quit even after I broke my thumb on the first day of the tree day crucible event which I had to complete in order to become a Marine.
I see myself as a warrior I have the training of a warrior but I dislike confrontation and shy away from it. I’ll do what I have to do in order defuse the...
All of us leave our own impression on the world, and no one could be quite like us. In the poem, "Thumbprint" by Eve Merriam, she talk about the theme of how everyone is unique, and no one will ever be just like us. She uses alliteration and metaphor to expound on her theme. I have also reached a time in my life where I appreciate my uniqueness.
The poem "Thumbprint" discloses the festivity of being a uniqueindividual. The poet demonstrates the speaker’s thumb’s separateness by using alliteration like “whorls, whirls, wheels." These descriptions show us how the thumbprint is unique unto it, and permit the reader to actually depict it. The poet also uses metaphor to evaluate the speaker’s emotion of happiness and sadness to the words of "my own sun and rain." She wants to explain how she is in charge of her emotions. This poem is in fact an extensive metaphor because the thumbprint is compared with the personality of the person. A person has a thumbprint that classifies who they are, and at the same time, it also shows how everyone is different. As the speaker states, it is "mine alone" this highlights the sense of delight she feels for her distinct qualities. The poem illustrates the speaker’s festivity of her existence.
Like the poet, I have observed my existence, and valued my differences. It was not always this because when I was younger, I felt inadequately that...
Being that I have many talents and that family is an important factor in my life makes me who I am. We all have things in common but no one is exactly the same. That’s what makes us unique from one another. We stand out, and make of ourselves what we want people to portray us as, who we want to become in life, and who we want to be known as.
I’munique because I am multi talented. I am a songwriter/produce/ musician, poet, dancer, an actress. When I am home I write and produce my own music, and later mix down my vocals. That is one of the things I do on my spare time. I have a passion for each of my talents. My sound is unique but not so different from what you here on the radio. Although I listen to many genres of music I love R&B/Pop/Hip-Hop the most, so I try to capture that sound with a little of my personality incorporated so that it’s my sound. No one can capture my sound, because it is me and no one can be me. I get inspired from a diverse number of people. That adds on to what sound I want to capture and put forth in my music. Learning how to play the piano and guitar help me a lot because they help me capture the sound I want. I express myself in music, movement and words, although other people do the same I do it differently just because, we all have things in common but no one is exactly the same.
Another talent that makes me unique is...

...What Makes Me Unique
What makes me unique is being me. There is no one else in the world like me I am my own person. Sometimes we try to be like others and try to be cool and will do things just to be called cool, but not me I am above the influence. I will not stoop down to some immature and selfish persons level just to be called cool. I am cool and my friends see me as being cool as well. I am the type of person who will put my own needs aside for others. No matter what I am doing if my family or friends need me I will be there in a flash. I RESPECT people and I know that makes a lot of people unique, but I absolutely cannot stand when someone is disrespectful. When they are disrespectful it makes me want to go over and slap them. I want to say to them “ would you ever want to be disrespected like that”? My friends always tell me that I am so random so I guess that is another thing that makes me unique is being random. I know I can say some random things but its like what I say is what I am thinking it may not be funny to them but in my head its hilarious so if they don’t laugh it don’t stop me from laughing. Being me is the most unique thing about me. No matter who I meet they will meet the real me and not a fake me. I am not going to put on a show just to get someone to like me. I always say “like me for who I am or don’t I could care less“. That is what makes me unique....

What Makes Me Unique
Coming from Miami, FL to McHenry, MD was a huge culture shock. When I first visited Garrett College over the summer for a baseball visit, I did not know what to expect. During my visit I had an amazing time with my family. The weather was perfect, and the talk I had with coach Hallenbeck went very well. The reason I came to Garrett College was baseball. Baseball has been a huge factor in my life ever since I was a little kid. It helped keep me out of trouble, helped me develop relationships with well-known coaches, and it has made me meet friends from all over the country. Since I’ve been at Garrett I have developed one huge characteristic. Leaving my family and all my friends back home has made me more of an independent person. Back home I live with my parents; they feed me, do my laundry, and wash the dishes. Now that I am living on my own, doing all of these necessities by myself has made me a more independent person. I believe over the years I have developed strength, courage, perseverance, a sense of humor, an outgoing personality, athletic, kindness, and humility. All my life I have dreamt about playing College baseball. Without the support of my parents and my high school baseball coach I would not be where I am now. The three characteristics that best describe me are athletic, fun, and generous.
The first characteristic that describes me is athletic. When I was little I played...

...Black History speech: I'm Black and I'm Proud
As we come to the close of another black History Month, we have been reflecting upon our heritage. Upon such people as Chrispus Atticks, Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, George Washington Culver, Dr. Charles Drew, Thurgood Marshal, Malcolm X, and of course Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and many, many more. And as we remember and review these names we realize that in any other society this would be a great list of historical figures. But being in the society that we are in, our contributions have been, to say the least, SUPPRESSED.
So therefore we have to acknowledge our own, since history will not acknowledge us we choose to acknowledge ourselves. And so this month of celebration and reflecting brings back to memory the contributions of the African American Community.
Down through the ages, we have been identified by many names. I would say to you today that I am proud to be an AFRICAN AMERICAN, I'm proud to be BLACK, I'm proud to be COLORED, I'm proud to be a NEGRO, I'm proud to be AFRICAN, I'm proud to be a CAANANITE, an AMORITE, a JEBUSHITE, a GIRGASITE, a HIVITE, an ARKITE, a SINITE, a ARVADITE, a ZEMARITE, a HAMATHITE: But most of all, I'M PROUD TO BE ME, A CHILD OF GOD.
You know I believe that if I had to choose which race I would belong to, I would chose the African American Race. And the reason...
