The increase in competition in the job market, coupled with dreams and aspirations for better life has led to a high demand for higher education. This implies that college education provides students with exciting opportunities which may not be available to students who end their education after high school (Smart, 2009, p. 23). High school students are often thrilled with the idea of earning a high income as soon as they graduate. Thus, some students tend to be less interested in college education. However, it is apparent that college graduates are better placed in finding well paying jobs than high school drop-outs. This paper seeks to highlight how important college education is to me. Importance of College Education To begin with, college education provides excellent opportunities for job seekers. Unlike past generations, the current high school graduates can not access “a large number of well-paying jobs that were once available” (Felix & Pope, 2010, pp. 69-93). The economy of America has since shifted from being manufacturing-based to one that is knowledge based. This calls for higher academic qualifications that can only be achieved through college education. In this context, college education acts as a gateway to better opportunities for those who are interested in good jobs. According to the 2007 census, non-collage graduates earned only 32,500 dollars per annum as compared to holders of bachelor’s degrees who earned 42,000 dollars per annum (Felix & Pope, 2010, pp. 69-93). Besides, employees with college education are usually entitled to better health and retirement benefits. Consequently, college education will enable me to achieve my dream of getting a high-paying job. With a well-paying job, I will be able to realize my financial goals and future plans such as raising a family and living a comfortable life. College education enables students to acquire a wide range of skills and knowledge that is not only important in their careers, but also in their...

Why Is A CollegeEducationImportant to Me?
Henry Ford, said, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.” For years, I thought I was just too old to return to school. However, for 20 years, I’ve worked in a career that provided great financial stability, but it never brought happiness. When I was laid-off, I made the decision to not return to the corporate world; instead, I started my process of becoming a successful counselor and motivational speaker. Spending time with my family and doing what makes me happy are my overall goals in life. So here I am forty-one and enrolled in college.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics the number of middle-aged people in college, graduate school or technical school is projected to rise to 4.1 million by 2015. I am proud to be a part of this statistic. I believe we can’t look back at what we should have done; we need to move forward and make the best out of what we can do now. This past June, I attended DePaul University School for New Learning Commencement Ceremony. Tecora Rogers, a 59 year old Masters Graduate gave the graduating class commencement address. While, I wish I can share her entire speech, the following is what stuck with me most. “For years I have worked in a corporate environment and promoted the...

“Whycollegeeducation is important to me”
Collegeeducation is important to me because it will create more opportunities with my employer as well as increase my salary. I know some employers put more emphasis on a collegeeducation than others. Unfortunately, collegeeducation isn’t an option for some individuals. I know many people around me that couldn’t go to college due to conflicting obligations or lack of financial support. I am thirty-eight years old and am just now starting college. While I do see an importance for collegeeducation on some career paths, I also see that not all career paths require it.
My current employer now requires a college degree for any of their professional positions. My employment relationship with my company began through a high school co-operative program and, at the time, there was no requirement to possess a degree. Today, my position has been grandfathered in through seniority, but I need a degree for advancement in my career path; therefore, a collegeeducation is very important for me and my family and the advancement of my career. My salary will have the potential to double with a degree.
...“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”--Nelson Mandela, July 16 2003
An education is more than going to a college or university to receive a degree. It provides the opportunity to expand our minds to the fullest, to absorb what is around us. It allows us to experience the differences and similarities of our fellow men and women. To me, that is why a collegeeducation is important. It prepares you for the future world in which, at times, can change in an instant.
The quote by Nelson Mandela about education and the power it brings is very important. Education is one thing someone cannot take away. By advancing yourself and obtaining an education allows you not to be ignorant and be manipulated by wrongdoers of this world. In my family that statement is true. I have many family members who did not receive higher education once they graduated high school. Looking back as a child through the years I have witnessed them being taken advantage of due to the lack of education and knowledge of the situation they were in. I promised myself I was not going to be put in that situation of not knowing and being taken advantage of due to the lack of education.

...“WhyCollegeEducation is Important to Me”
A collegeeducation is a great investment for anyone’s life and, as some say, “is not something that you should choose to have but something that shall be essential to your success”. In my case, a collegeeducation means much more than just being successful.
As a proud mother of three, I always strive to be a role model for my children. It’s not always easy and, a lot of times, I make mistakes. By pursuing a collegeeducation, it teaches my children that, regardless of being an adult, people are still able to learn new things and change. Watching me juggle family and study times teaches them how to prioritize things in life and how to better manage time. It encourages them not to give up after the first try, but to keep moving towards achieving their dreams, even if it means facing some failures along the way.
As supervisor of the financial department at my workplace, I put a lot of pressure on my own personal work performance. Pursuing a higher collegeeducation gives me the self-confidence and guidance I need to achieve my professional goals. By understanding and utilizing business strategies learned in college, it allows me to be a better leader to my staff and a greater asset to my employer.
