While growing up, as children, we have few worries. We grow up with no responsibilities, free spirited and carefree. By the time our teenage years approach, we are more mature and look at life in a different way. We are approaching young adulthood and have a sudden desire to have more. Well, as our parents would say, “Money does not grow on trees”(Godfrey, Edwards, page10) They literally mean just that. Suddenly we are not getting and many gifts and treats as we did when we were younger. That is when we feel the need to make our own money, and being able to provide for ourselves. We want to be able to support our wants and needs. The older we become, the more we want and need. This is where making more money comes to play. The higher the education, the more money there is to be made. More financial stability is established.
During my childhood, I grew up listening to my parents say, “Money doesn’t grow on trees.”(Godfrey, Edwards, page 10) As a youth, I didn’t understand exactly what that meant. Growing up in a two-parent household taught me some valuable morals. Both my parents worked extremely hard to make sure that myself and my siblings were taken care of. Our wants and needs were provided by our parents. My mom has a college education, but my dad, being the bread winner did not. Although my dad’s education was limited, he was still able to provide and maintain our family beyond our expectations. Through my parents hard work and dedication to us, their children, I was able to see and realize that although we never struggled as a family, if not equipped with the necessary education at this day and age could be detrimental. That is what motivated me even more as an adult. I was more determined to complete my college education than ever.
My parents were always open to us being independent at a young age. They wanted us to know and understand, what it...

“Whycollegeeducation is important to me”
Collegeeducation is important to me because it will create more opportunities with my employer as well as increase my salary. I know some employers put more emphasis on a collegeeducation than others. Unfortunately, collegeeducation isn’t an option for some individuals. I know many people around me that couldn’t go to college due to conflicting obligations or lack of financial support. I am thirty-eight years old and am just now starting college. While I do see an importance for collegeeducation on some career paths, I also see that not all career paths require it.
My current employer now requires a college degree for any of their professional positions. My employment relationship with my company began through a high school co-operative program and, at the time, there was no requirement to possess a degree. Today, my position has been grandfathered in through seniority, but I need a degree for advancement in my career path; therefore, a collegeeducation is very important for me and my family and the advancement of my career. My salary will have the potential to double with a degree.
...“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”--Nelson Mandela, July 16 2003
An education is more than going to a college or university to receive a degree. It provides the opportunity to expand our minds to the fullest, to absorb what is around us. It allows us to experience the differences and similarities of our fellow men and women. To me, that is why a collegeeducation is important. It prepares you for the future world in which, at times, can change in an instant.
The quote by Nelson Mandela about education and the power it brings is very important. Education is one thing someone cannot take away. By advancing yourself and obtaining an education allows you not to be ignorant and be manipulated by wrongdoers of this world. In my family that statement is true. I have many family members who did not receive higher education once they graduated high school. Looking back as a child through the years I have witnessed them being taken advantage of due to the lack of education and knowledge of the situation they were in. I promised myself I was not going to be put in that situation of not knowing and being taken advantage of due to the lack of education.
A collegeeducation, in the world today, allows you to...
