Courage means doing something even though it can be difficult and fearsome. I chosen this statement because I believe that statement is true. The dictionary definition of courage is “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc. A example of this thought would be a someone who just graduated high school or even college joining the military. With wars raging all over the world, a solider is almost guaranteed to be on the front line. Anybody a young man or woman who has their whole life ahead of them, to look forward to, has to have a lot of courage to face the life challenges of a military life . You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. Also, courage is the quality of every quality at its highest testing point. Eventually every value gets tested. This shows that courage is something always going to get tested in a way life and some beliefs etc. One power full quote that I believe in by Victor Hugo;Have courage for the great sorrows of live, and patience for the small ones; and then when you have accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. In my own words it saying that have sorrows meaning sadness etc. for the great patience for the small ones later. Anyone who is confident, their circumstances where other people would be afraid is brave or courageous. Also courage is sticking your neck out in what you believe in. For example in The Crucible by Arthur Miller, he has many key scenes, but the most had effect on the reader was courage. For example every body goes through courage in one part of life, police officers also have to have this courage to risk their lives every day to protect citizens of the community from danger. Firemen have the courage to go into a burning building to save other people. This would be very fearsome and a difficult task to do. Doctors,...

Altruism and Why WedoWhatWedo
There are two types of people in the world, those who play and those who watch. Players find themselves getting involved in whatever they are passionate about. Those who watch find themselves warming the bench, not contributing, and missing out. One important game we play in life is connected to altruism. Someone who plays in the game of altruism participates in service and doing things outside themself. Why do they act so selflessly? If someone is self-interested, shouldn’t they be playing in something that does more to benefit them? In an effort to argue that people are truly altruistic and simultaneously self-interested, I will use three articles to compare and contrast with Aristotle’s idea of altruism by showing how and why people play in the game of altruism.
Clavian and Chapuisat say that altruism is one word with multiple meanings. As a general term, it means an individual will dispose or sacrifice personal interest in favor of others or it is a gift given without expectation of future personal reward (Clavian and Chapuisat, 2011). Further, four definitions of altruism are needed to avoid misunderstandings across the various disciplines. These disciplines are psychological altruism, behavioral altruism, reproductive altruism, and preference altruism. Altruism has been researched in many fields and that it...

...idea of “que sais-je?” which translates in English to “Whatdo I know?” is a question that that originated from Michel De Montaigne. This question allows us to contemplate and question whatwe have learnt. Perhaps it is Montaigne’s experience as a statesman that has allowed himself to question the very foundations of human society or more notably laws and legislations as nothing is hardly ever seems obvious when it comes to deciding the punishment for a convicts. Works like such as Don Quixote written by Miguel Cervantes and Faust written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe also questions the validity of social views and learning. By delving into Montaigne’s essay On Experience we also get glimpses of how the originator of this philosophical dilemma deals with the affirmation of knowledge. Even though the question of “que sais-je?” seems like a vast topic, the inherent human qualities, such as ambition, deduction and experience, that are discussed in these three works might be able to provide insight into this puzzling dilemma.
To answer Michel De Montaigne’s question that has puzzled many philosopher for centuries, we begin by exploring Miguel De Cervantes’ story of Don Quixote. Don Quixote’s actions and his knowledge, stems from romantic chivalric text such as Arthurian legends. The story is first told by Cervantes himself who attempts to convince the readers that he is basing his work from...
...Are we free to dowhatwe want?
Humans are species with highly developed brain, intelligence, wisdom, and self- awareness. Wedo also have a free will. Does it mean that we are free to dowhatwe want? Does it give us ability and permission to act regardless of any other features? In the topic of this essay we can notice the construction of argument with its hidden premise. The full argument can sound: ‘If we have a free will, then we are free to dowhatwe want and nothing can stop us in achieving whatever we want’. Assuming, that we have a free will, argument can be true only if the conclusion is true, what means, that there is nothing that could stop us in getting whatwe want.
In this essay I intend to refute the conclusion, proving that the argument itself is false. I shall argue that although we have a free will, we are not free to dowhatwe want. I will establish falsity of conclusion by disproving thought, that we are free to dowhatwe want and that nothing can stop us in getting whatwe want. These two sentences...
