The Value of a Higher Education

According to “TeenLife Blog,” averages of 2,350,000 students enroll to college per year but only 1,750,000 will graduate. With these astonishing numbers it makes me fearful as a student and as a member of society. Is it wrong to question what one is doing with their life if they don’t graduate? Does dropping out mean one can’t be successful and financially stable? There are many exceptions to specific people who didn’t need an education for example, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. The value of a higher education comes with determination and perseverance; not everyone has these qualities because college is not for everyone. The value of education means to appreciate knowledge and the outcomes that one would receive from finishing their degree. There are more opportunities from getting a higher education for example better careers, higher self-esteem and stability. One can be self- aware about the person they want to be by learning more about their goals and be fulfilled about the decisions they made to better their lives. In the article “Is College the new high school?” by Vauihini Vara, Obama says, “You came to college to learn about the world and to engage with new ideas and to discover the things you’re passionate about- and maybe have a little fun.” This is a very true statement but one has to want a higher education to learn about the world around them. This kind of passion for knowledge is very selective, you have to want to go the 10 extra miles to live comfortably and stable. College may be the appropriate option for those who value education because they would utilize the knowledge that they worked so hard for. College is not for everyone because some may feel it’s not a need it’s a necessity for those are content with their lives. Not all is disciplined enough to higher or to finish their education.
