The international issue on narcotics and their domestic drug policies has been of great debate for decades. In this time, countries across the globe have joined the United States by declaring “war” on drugs. Today, their efforts are failing and result in many negative effects due to faulty policies caused by fact-deprived decisions. Increased efforts to enforce failing drug policy are proving costly. While the United States spends more than $51 trillion annually on the international war on drugsi, over 117 countries across the globe suffer from overcrowded prisonsii. This is due to an increase in arrests from nonviolent drug possession, making up 82% of U.S. arrests reported to the FBIiv, inflicting extra costs on countries. Despite these record numbers, global supply and purity of many narcotics have shown consistent increase in the past two decadesiii. The lost opportunity to save money is joined by that to improve public welfare. Forfeiting the ability to tax all cannabis purchases in the U.S. eliminates $46.7 billion in potential annual revenue. Over 200,000 students in the U.S. have lost federal aid eligibility due to drug convictioni. This causes lifelong financial issues due to a nonviolent crime, while over 70,000 people have been killed in Mexico’s drug war since 2006i highlight the worst impacts. Similarly, weak regulations on cannabis in Afghanistan allow terrorist groups, like al Qaeda, to grow nearly 24,000 hectares of cannabis annuallyiv. Revenue of nearly $411 billion from selling cannabis on the global black marketiii provides funding to fuel their international threat. Background
Current regulatory laws on cannabis find precedent in the 1920s and 1930s, when alcohol prohibition drove U.S. citizens to obtain doctor’s prescriptions for its “medicinal” use, which echoes medicinal marijuana trends todayiv. Most states do not have such a policy that allows...

No two countries have the same political and legal system. Each country has its own laws and regulations on business and products. When doing business in another country it is important to know the laws and abide by them. Culture plays a huge part in a business’s success when venturing into a foreign market. Being sensitive to the cultural and religious beliefs in that country is important to a business’s long term success. A business needs to be educated in the laws, customs and cultures of that country so that business will be able to comply and coincide with that country. A business needs to know how and where to resolve any legal issues that may arise while doing business in that country. Disputes need to be handled in a way that is respectful to that country and adheres to the contract in which the parties agreed.
InternationalIssuesIssues in Legal Disputes in International Transactions
“International transactions and dispute resolution requires both an understanding of the law and a sensitivity to foreign culture, politics, formal and informal power structures and decision-making approaches” (White and Williams LLP, 2013). When entering into a contract with a foreign country, one needs to be very specific in the contract about how to resolve any...
...2014). Such increase is mainly reflected by the employment growth in the field of industry, construction and service (around 1%).
Political and legal analysis
It is highlighted that Vietnam is a peaceful country with a stable institution and legal system. It is considered as an advantage for foreign companies to take chance to do business in Vietnam. Obviously, the stability in political factors is a strong foundation for the companies’ growth in long term. To be specific, in terms of judicial system, since 1986, Vietnam has reinforced and improved such legal framework with the purpose of strengthening socio-economic system and absorbing international quintessence. Following that, Vietnam has been on the way to gradually adapt global standards and requirements as long as open to foreign corporations in order to promote the international integration. From 2006, Labor rule was given birth to as a big step to ensure the fairness and positive potential for both domestic and foreign corporations.
Society, culture and ethic
Vietnam culture is the unique mixture of Vietnamese traditional and indigenous features. Besides that, it is also suffered from impacts of China culture, Western culture and unique characteristics of the ethnic minorities.
Particularly, about the consumer psychology, in the past, Vietnamese people primarily focused on the durability, simplicity instead of the flashy appearance. Recently, thanks to the integration and the...
Doing business over borders and through time zones has become commonplace in the twenty-first century. International firms are consistently examined by the cultural differences between countries when they expand their products or services into foreign markets, and seek the most productive and talented employees of the world out. Culture, being intangible in shape, builds up of a particular society's behaviors, from religion beliefs to dressing style to art to methods of farming. Trompenaars and Hampden-Turner consider that culture is a shared belief of a group of people. Also, according to Mahoney, Trigg, Griffin and Pustay, culture is the set of values, attitudes, beliefs, behaviors and customs that distinguish a society. Besides, in the context of international management, culture is defined as "everything that people have, think, and do as members of their society Culture reflects social rules however it might be defined, while business must be conducted within the context of the society, a society culture thereafter guides the firms how to run in such society. Understanding culture constituents might help companies visualize the effects on conducting business. The reasons why understanding culture is important in doing international business will be discussed associated with examples. In further response to this question I will subdivide benefits from appreciation of culture as marketing products, managing workforces,...
The news article demonstrate Malaysia’s Authorities have banned a planned concert by U.S pop singer Ke$ha due to cultural and religious issues.
First, Malaysia’s authorities banned the concert, although Ke$ha has agreed to change the wardrobe and lyrics. This is because of the strong cultural and religious norms. This demonstrates the elements of culture of Relations with the universe. This element may include religious beliefs, symbolic meaning and superstition (Fletcher et al 2011). Malaysia is known as a Muslim country that is strictly disagreeing to anything that related to sexism. In addition, religion is one the most sensitive elements of culture that will impact on value systems.
Second, the cancellation of the concert by the Malaysia’s authorities has demonstrated lack of long term orientation. Long term orientation is defined as an observance of future relationships, thrift and persistence (Fletcher et al 2011). Ke$ha have spoke of her frustration at the cancellation on Twitter and it seems difficult for the promoter to invite back Ke$ha to perform in Malaysia. Others, this will also results in difficulties to invite other popular artist to from U.S to come to Malaysia due to this incident.
Third, there is an intention by Livescape to enter into an international negotiation. Livescape and Ke$ha have agreed to change the wardrobe and lyrics. Livescape has demonstrated...

Addressing International Legal and Ethical Issues
How we handle international legal and ethical issues is a key factor to either developing a business overseas or dealing with international business partners. Of the many issues involved with in international legal proceedings, an understanding local law and dispute resolution can be mitigated with the selection of proper counsel.
Resolving International Legal Disputes
Since not all foreign countries require lawyers follow the same standards as American lawyers, it is advisable that local counsel be hired to navigate the local laws that claim jurisdiction where the transactions or business will be conducted. Using this local counsel to answer the relevant questions such as foreign exchange controls, environmental issues, required governmental consents among others the Lead counsel will be able to form a plan. It is essential that the local counsel is brought on early in the process because many time sensitive issues may cause delays and in turn cost the company money.
When Companies come from different jurisdictions they will try to make a case that their laws should be the one governing the case. This is usually based on financial gain or loss. If there is not an agreement the...
...How many times have you seen someone sporting a Rolex watch, or wearing Oakley sunglasses and wondered to yourself, are those real? Counterfeiting is a serious issue in this nation and around the world: however, it can be easily defined, its different variations identified, methods understood, and it can be dealt with. As white collar crime has evolved, so have the various types that have been undertaken. Ranging anywhere from blackmail to bribery, or computer fraud to forgery, white collar crime is a fast growing and serious issue. "Perhaps most troubling is the widespread threat counterfeiting poses to public health and safety. Few Americans truly appreciate the significance, scope or consequences for this crime."
Counterfeiting is only one major type of white collar crime. This crime occurs when someone copies or imitates an item without having been authorized to do so and passes the copy off for the genuine or original item. Judging by this definition, many people's lives are touched by this crime. Counterfeiting is most often associated with money however it can also be associated with other activities. Counterfeiting ranges from the dubbing of currency, to the passing off of fake clothing for designer materials, and even includes the pirating of music and movies. Although pirating movies and music is sometimes considered its own category, by definition, if they are being passed off as the real product, it is counterfeiting.
