When building up the airline JetBlue, CEO David Neeleman wanted to create a new way of travelling, making flying easier and more civilized for both, customers and employees. The company’s business strategy was a premium airline service at low prices. Thus every passenger travelling with the airline should discover the“ JetBlue Expericence " which combines value, excellent service, style and innovations. By offering branded snacks, dunkin donuts, coffee, more legroom, wider seats and satellite television etc. the customers benefit from a high quality service. Innovations such as ticketless flying, one-way fares, touchscreen check-in, free live television and flying with the latest aircrafts such as the Embraer 190 regional jet reflect the airline’s aim to create a hip image that differentiates them from their competitors.
Neeleman reduces distance within the company by talking to passangers about their experiences and by visiting the employees at their workplace. Supervisors need to attend the“Jet Blue University“, where they are trained by Neeleman or Dave Barger, the chief operating officer. All employees are seen as “Crewmembers“ and are highly involved in all business aspects to cultivate a strong team spirit and enthusiasm for the airline. Based on these aspects the“JetBlue Experience“ is strongly embedded in the company’s overall business strategy.
When JetBlue got bigger, the company faced new challenges in 2005, by dealing with more complex operations and scalability issues. Labor and...
...Data Flow Diagram (DFD)
The Data Flow Diagram (DFD) is a graphical representation of the flow of data through an information system. It enables you to represent the processes in your information system from the viewpoint of data. The DFD lets you visualize how the system operates, what the system accomplishes and how it will be implemented, when it is refined with further specification.
Data flow diagrams are used by systems analysts to design information-processing systems but also as a way to model whole organizations. You build a DFD at the very beginning of your business process modeling in order to model the functions your system has to carry out and the interaction between those functions together with focusing on data exchanges between processes. You can associate data with conceptual, logical, and physical data models and object-oriented models.
There are two types of DFDs, both of which support a top-down approach to systems analysis, whereby analysts begin by developing a general understanding of the system and gradually break components out into greater detail:
• Logical data flow diagrams - are implementation-independent and describe the system, rather than how activities are accomplished.
• Physical data flow diagrams - are implementation-dependent and describe the actual entities (devices, department, people, etc.) involved in the current system.
DFDs can also be grouped together to represent a sub-system of the system being analyzed.
A data flow...

...how fishing has changed at Apo Island, and the direct and indirect effects on people's lives.
To the natives of Apo Island the ocean represents an irreplaceable source of food and income. These natives have built their entire community and way of life around fishing the rich seas which surround their island paradise. The fish that the men of Apo Island catch each day provide the vast majority of nourishment received by both themselves and their families, as well as a source of income through the sale of the excess catch. The beauty of the surrounding reefs and the abundant fish that populate them is breath-taking, a fact that is appreciated by the multitude of tourists who flock to the island each year to engage in snorkeling and scuba diving. Baring this in mind it is hard to believe that only thirty years ago overfishing, to accommodate an ever increasing population, and destructive fishing methods conducted by the native population nearly destroyed the fragile ecosystem that surrounds Apo Island. These reefs, and the marine life which populates them, only exist today thanks to the intervention of scientists from Negros Island's Silliman University who consulted with the natives of Apo Island to convince them to change their fishing methods and create marine preservations to promote a healthy marine ecosystem, an ecosystem that has flourished in the years since these measures were taken.

...However, groundbreaking developments were already underway even during these early years. This momentum is still apparent in the organization today and is personified by Simon Ricketts, the chief information officer of Cadbury Schweppes plc.
Ricketts, who has been at Cadbury Schweppes for the last eleven years, is convinced that his organization is creating a new universe and is not afraid to say so. This claim is more than borne out by his focused expos of the project that was initiated almost two years ago. SAP.com and Project Probe have become the key concepts in one of the largest projects that CS plc has ever undertaken.
Fragmented IT systems were not compatible
Cadbury Schweppes has used IT systems since the 1970s. Its use of SAP as one of a number of ERP systems dates back to 1994. The groups IT infrastructure was fragmented because its growth was largely driven by purchasing other companies in a series of takeovers. The diverse organizations that Cadbury Schweppes acquired and combined as a single group over the years continued to use its existing IT systems. These were incompatible and various attempts to implement IT coordination scenarios in purchasing or comparable settlement systems failed. Internal and external benchmarking was compromised, and market positioning proved difficult, which in turn was not appreciated by the stock market. Fragmented systems had both negative cost implications and a detrimental effect on the service that...
...SAP Development Life Cycle
The Typical SAP Module development has to be maintaining a sequential development formation. For any of the module development someone has to follow the following steps to make the module functional:
• Business Process Blue Printing: This function documents the business processes in the company that we want to implement in the system. In a Business Blueprint for Projects, the manager has to create a project structure in which relevant business scenarios, business processes and process steps are organized in a hierarchical structure. The Manager can also create project documentation and assign it to individual scenarios, processes or process steps. Then assign transactions to each process step, to specify how your business processes should run in the company’s SAP systems. The Business Blueprint is a detailed description of the company business processes and systems requirements.
The Business Blueprint provides a common strategy of how your business processes are to be mapped into one or more SAP systems. The Business Blueprint documents in detail the scope of business scenarios, business processes, process steps, and the requirements of an SAP solution implementation.
A Business Blueprint comprises the following structure elements in a hierarchy:
● Organizational Units
● Master data
● Business scenarios
...The ERP system, provided by SAP, includes features to support the bank's long-term financial systems requirements, including:
- Enabling a unified, global financial management process
- Providing a flexible operating model to quickly respond to changing regulatory mandates and shifts in the marketplace
- Incremental enhancement packages without comprehensive system upgrades
SAP will help streamline and simplify our financial systems, support timely analytics and provide better process insights to drive more effective business decisions
In employing these principles, banks globally will be able to better respond to changing customer needs, and reduce risk and cost of re-engineering legacy systems towards a more flexible operational environment

Akademi Teknikal Laut Malaysia (ATLAM) is a wholly owned organization of MICT Berhad. The management of ATLAM had been asked to upgrade its accounting system with the PETRA group-wide SAP system. The person who is responsible to the changes of the accounting software is Zulkifli Osman, the Finance Manager of ATLAM. He had to severely assess the risks associated with the decision. The main problem arises is not on the cost of implementing SAP or Systems, Applications and Products in ATLAM but rather on the acceptance of the new system by the ATLAM’s staff.
The conversation between Zulkifli and Sani, the Project Manager; Gopal, the User Project Manager; Lim, User Representative; and Kamal, the Functional Analyst has come to the several issues to be considered. Most of the issues arise are from Lim such as SAP is more suitable for manufacturing industry not education industry. Other issue is ATLAM is lack of equipment and facilities. According to Lim, the department does not have enough personal computers and if they have they do not have enough space available for the personal computer in their department.
Time constraint also one of the issue arise in the conversation. The management had decided to schedule the phases of proposed SAP on 1st of April 2002. They are now on third week of January. The time needed for implementing the new system usually takes number of months to be implemented. Lim also...
