Running Head: Biggest Fear 1

Biggest Fear 2
Fear is a natural part in the life of every person. There is a reason or reasons behind all fears, whether the fear is instinctive or acquired. Through the course of my life, I have taken notice of a certain fear that unnerves me, and it is the fear of being taken. Biggest Fear 3
Have you ever walked by yourself at night into a lonely parking lot and you get the feeling of being watched, or hear the rustling of the leaves, the whistle of the air, or even footsteps close behind you? When you see a 'Missing' poster anywhere, do you feel uneasy? And when you enter your inbox in your email, do you see chain mails about people being missing? I do all the time and I am constantly afraid of what’s lingering in the shadows around me. Growing up and to this day I always watch documentaries and movies over young people to grown adults getting kidnapped because of how vulnerable they are. There are mean and viscous people in this world and they are willing to go to the extremes to get what they want. Or in some cases, they do it just for fun. Recently my mom and I went to the movies to see ‘A Walk Among the Tombstones’ because it had our favorite character in it. It was about a heroin trafficker whose wife was abducted and murdered, and he hires a private investigator to track down the men who killed her. He searches out the thugs who murdered the wife of a wealthy drug dealer, Scudder scours New York City in search of his targets -- and the closer he gets, the more apparent it becomes that they are something much more sinister than your typical kidnappers. The most disturbing part was that after the kidnappers had received what they wanted, they still murdered their innocent victims. Through out the movie I felt uneasy and queasy just because I know that it’s realistic and that it’s probably...

...Fear is a form of a phobia and is something that lives within us no matter how big or small. Everyone has fear but some people try to hide it more than others do. Fear usually develops during ones childhood. Fear also comes in a variety of common things such as Snakephobia (fear of snakes) or Hypsiphobia (fear of heights) but there are uncommon fears as well such as Hadephobia (fear of hell) or Heliophobia (fear of the sun). Mybiggestfear is actually very common called Coulrophobia (fear of clowns). For many people such as myself, the cause of coulrophobia develops during our childhood, affecting us in many different ways, and it stays with us well into our adulthood affecting our lives even today.
Many of our fears develop when most of us are young. Myfear developed on October 31, 1997, when I was seven years old. It was Halloween night and my brother and I were not able to go trick-or-treating because we were sick. My mom and brother were going to watch a scary movie, so I went to my room to watch cartoons. After a while, I became bored, so I snuck out of my room to see what my mom and brother were watching and if it was scary. I didn’t know this at the time but the movie they...
...Maybe the root of my motivation to keep moving forward wasn’t in my dreams, but in myfears that kept me awake at night. One would think it would be the other way around, but what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger, right? They seemed to haunt my thoughts wherever life seemed to take me, and they still do. Stopping me from doing even some of the little things in life. They say that the only thing tofear is fear itself, but overcoming your fears is one of the biggest obstacles anyone will ever face in their lifetime. My top three greatest fears seem to be the fear of sharks, the fear of the dark, and the fear of a wasted life.
One of my greatest fears is the fear of sharks. Silly right? When I was little, my grandmother would always take me and my other siblings down to the beach since her parents lived in florida. I would always take my goggles and snorkeler, swim out into the open ocean, and begin my search for sand dollars. One day came to where I had became lost in my search and found myself to be a little too far away from the shore. I popped my head out of the water and realized I couldn’t touch the bottom even though I had been able to see...
Kidnap Poem was written by Nikki Giovanni. Kidnap Poem is a great poem, because she is imagining that if she was a poet all the things that she would do. The Poem Expression that I pick “spontaneous overflow of powerful feeling”- William Wordsworth. I feel that this expression and the poem that I have chosen goes together and the terms that fit within the poem are Visual Imagery, Lyric Poetry, and Diction.
The expression “spontaneous overflow of powerful feeling”- by William Wordsworth correlates with Nikki Giovanni’s poem Kidnap Poem. I feel that the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings is something you just cannot help. Definition of Spontaneous is something that is natural, but occurs not on a regular. I feel that Nikki Giovanni had those feeling because she is a poet, but she puts herself in the shoes of a person who is not a poet, and think that if she was a poet of “what she would do”. Nikki Giovanni starts the poem off by stating “Ever been Kidnapped by a poet, if I was a poet, I would kidnap you”. She describes all these things that she would do to that person. You never heard a person ever being kidnap by a poet; to me what can they do, but spit words at me. You get a different meaning of the poem as you read it multiple times that she not kidnapping a person; she is...
So it was a cool February night just like any other. I was on my way home from hanging out with my girlfriend, and I decided to call up a friend. I stopped at the ATM in Poca and scrolled through my phone looking for his name, and finally found it tapped it and asked him, “Do you want to go bowling?” “Pick me up in fifteen minutes,” Anthony replied. I went and picked him up after getting money from the bank, and away we went. Meanwhile, I had another friend texting me wanting to hang out, so I invited him. He decided that he would invite two more people, so the five us bowled but not all of us made it home trouble free.
I was getting phone calls from my mom and I told her we were wrapping up the last game, and that’s what we were doing. We finished up the game and we were on our way out. Anthony and I proceeded to my car and our friend Jeff pulled behind us and wouldn’t let us out and I was getting very aggravated. I went to step out of the car and he took off before I placed my foot on the pavement, and I got back in the car. We then left the bowling alley and he continued to aggravate me as he went no more than fifteen miles per hour. Once we were passing the Moose Lodge in Nitro I had a plan in my head that I would take the back-roads in a stunt to beat him out. We were getting closer to the split right past the...
Learning a new skill can be a challenging experience requiring time and a lot of effort; nevertheless, we benefit greatly when we finally accomplish our goal. The feeling of pride and strength fills our mind, and the awareness that we were capable of doing something significant, either for ourselves or for others, gives us an appetite for more. My adventure with Muay Thai began two years ago whenmy friend from school, Olivia, told me about the new martial art gym in town and she asked me to go with her. At that time, I just moved to California and I was looking for anything to do besides sitting at home all alone. Therefore, I reacted very enthusiasticly about her idea. I thought it would be great to learn how to defend myself and burn some calories as a side effect. I did not realize though, how taugh Muay Thai training is and how much of physical and mental strength is needed to become successful in this discipline.
On the day of the first Muay Thai class, all excited, I was preparing myself for the training. I found my old gym bag in the closet and I started to pack all kinds of things I thought I might need, which included a bottle of water, a towel, wristbands, pair of socks, shampoo and conditioner for the shower, and a banana, just in case I was hungry afterwards. The class was starting at 6 o’clock in the evening so Olivia and I agreed to meet at...
...The Fear I Will Overcome
I have this fear. It causes my knees to shake. I break out in a cold sweat. My heart starts to beat at 100 miles per hour and I get light headed. I am crying inside but try to act strong around people who think that I am the toughest one there. The thoughts of certain death run through my mind as I imagine my own funeral. My stomach feels strange. My palms are clammy. I am terrified of heights. Of course, it is not really a fear of being in a high place. It is the view of a long way to fall, rocks far below me and not having anything around me to hold on to. The scary heights of rides is one example of myfear concidering the first time i went on one of the fastest and tallest roller coasters.
It was a hot summer day in 2010. My sisters, my parents and I were on our way to Canada's Wonderland. my youngest sister loves to talk about everything especially when it comes to something she is very excited about. The "are we there yet?" and "hurry up i am bored sitting back here" get really annoying after a while. the one subject she would not stop talking about, was how much she wanted to go on the roller coasters. I felt my stomach start to ache as she said the "r" word." My friend Cassidy said she liked the big roller coaster...
...about my weight, just a little conscious.
On a vacation with my parents, I was unwinding in the hotel room when my gaze fell upon the weighing machine across the room. A question materialised in my mind-
What is your worst fear?
And the hilarious, sarcastic part of me answered-
A weighing machine.
After a while of silent reflection, a better answer manifested itself in my mind-
Letting ego suppressmy true character and let circumstances change my soul.
Change is inevitable. But we need to hold on to who we truly are. We must not let our environment change our nature. Our nature is known to only one person.Us. So no matter how changeable we make our souls, our hearts, our natures, it will not affect anyone in the world but us.
Ego is a devil. It makes us take wrong decisions, make mistakes and be deceitful to our conscience. If we let ego take our decisions rather than our conscience then we are doomed to failure in our daily ventures of life.
Hence, as I concluded my reflections I realised that we must listen to our conscience and fear doing something against it rather than fearing something as superficial as our weight.I am in high school. I'm not the prettiest girl you'll see in a room. I love life and studies. And I eat like a normal person. I'm not too concerned about my weight, just a little conscious.
