What Is Ailurophobia?
Ailurophobia is an extreme and irrational fear of cats. People with this disorder fear cats to a point that they cannot stand being in their presence or even think about them (right diagnosis 2012). While it is normal for anyone to have a fear of certain types of animals, this fear does not usually hinder the normal operation of their lives. For the ailurophobic, simply knowing that an encounter with a cat is imminent can lead the sufferer to change his or her plans in order to avoid being in the presence of a cat. Those who fear cats, or Ailurophobes, may suffer intense anxiety reactions in the presence of felines, and this phobia is more common than most people realize (right diagnosis 2012). Ailurophobia (sometimes spelled elurophobia or aelurophobia) derives from the Greek words for cat, (ailouros) and fear (Phobos). Ailurophobia is an intense fear of something that poses no actual danger. While adults with Ailurophobia realize that these fears are irrational, they often find that facing, or even thinking about facing, the feared situation brings on a panic attack or severe anxiety (right diagnosis 2012). The cause of Ailurophobia is no universally specific explanation for ailurophobia. Rather, it is the various unique experiences of each individual that leads to the development of such a disorder (right diagnosis 2012). Some examples of experiences that could have resulted in the development of ailurophobia include early life traumatic events that involved cats, witnessing such events, or even upbringing by parents or caregivers that stressed a fear or aversion towards animals such as cats. Ailurophobia results from the inappropriate triggering of the biological fight-or-flight mechanism in response to cats. The most common cause of cat phobia is having a frightening experience in early childhood that involves a cat, usually being bitten or scratched (right diagnosis 2012). Some people may not even remember the experience that...
Origin of Amber Alerts
December 9, 2010
I’m sure we all can admit that we have changed the channel on the television when those loud Amber Alerts float across the screen, but do we really know exactly what they’re for or how they were created? It may hurt to know what you’ve been ignoring. The creation of Amber Alerts is rather interesting and as well as heartbreaking but first, let’s get an idea of what theAmber Alert is for.
The amber alert is a notification system to law enforcement and the media about child abductions. The purpose of Amber alerts is to notify the public when a child has been abducted and is in danger. They use radio, television, freeway message boards and many other methods to inform the public in the search of a child and stopping the perpetrator. Their goals are to obviously recover each abducted child before they meet any type of physical harm. However, Amber Alerts are not appropriate in all cases. Each case has to meet the criteria before deciding if the case is worthy enough. Here are a few guidelines each state has to approve before the alert can be activated. The victim is in imminent danger of death of serious harm, the child is under 18 years of age, there is no evidence of foul play, and enough descriptive information to be able to recognize the child. If there is not enough evidence to send out the message, other...
...percent of the children abducted are dead within three hours (Kidnapping Statistics, Kids Fighting Chance). To save children’s lives it is important to get the message out quickly and accurately. The AMBER Alert was created for the purpose of returning missing children to their families. What is the AMBER Alert, what is its purpose and criteria, and what is its effectiveness and concerns?
Amber Hagerman was riding her bike near her Arlington, Texas home on January 13, 1996. The beautiful nine-year-old was abducted in front of her home. The abduction was witnessed by a concerned neighbor and Amber’s brother, Ricky. As the neighbor contacted the police about the kidnapping, Ricky went to tell his parents what had occurred. Amber’s parents could not just sit and wait for information. They knew they had to get the information out to the public. They begin contacting the media and the FBI. Four days later the family received the news that their daughter’s body had been discovered in a storm drainage ditch. The abductor in this case has never been found. Amber’s parents created the organization, People Against Sex Offenders. It was established to force Texas legislature to pass stricter laws to protect children. The United States Legislature took up the cause and passed the Amber Hagerman Child Protection Act. It was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in October 1996. At a Dallas radio symposium in July...
...Current Analysis: Amber Alert
Prior to the creation of the Amber Alert there was little recourse for parents who found themselves involved in child abduction. Parents could only rely on law enforcement officials to act quickly enough to bring their children home safely. In many cases law enforcement had very little information, and by the time the public became involved to aide in the rescuing of the missing children, precious time would have elapsed. The Amber Alert was created to quickly alert the public through the media or Emergency Broadcasting System, in the event of a child abduction. The Amber Alert has greatly affected the issue of child abduction by allowing the eyes of the public to quickly become involved in rescuing the missing child.
The Amber Alert was enacted as a powerful legacy to Amber Hagerman. Amber, a nine year old girl from Arlington Texas, was abducted on January 13,1996. She was found dead four days later in a storm drain by a man who was walking his dog. Amber’s killer was never found. Her parents soon after her death created P.A.S.O., People Against Sex Offenders. Her parents created P.A.SO in the hopes of collecting enough signatures to force Texas Legislation into creating more vigorous laws to protect children. They soon received several donations, including office space that allowed them to run their organization. They soon were...
MEANING OF MS-DOS-
MS-DOS is an operating system designed for the IBM PC by Microsoft in 1981. MS DOS is Microsoft Disk Operating System. It was a command-line interface, meaning the user had to type in commands to use it, unlike Windows which is a Graphical User Interface. MS DOS was released on IBM PCs when they came out in the 1980s and continued in popular use until the mid 1990s, by which time the first of the Windows operating systems, Windows 95, began to take over.
In the personal computer operating systems MS-DOS and PC DOS, a number of standard system commands were provided for common tasks such as listing files on a disk or moving files. Some commands were built-in to the command interpreter; others existed as external commands on disk. Over the several generations of DOS, commands were added for the additional functions of the operating system. In the current Microsoft Windows operating system a text-mode command prompt window can still be used. A command can be given in Capitals or Small letters also. C :\> is known as DOS/command prompt, where we give the commands.
TYPES OF DOS COMMANDS-
DOS commands are of two types- Internal and External.
These commands do not require any special files for being executed and are brought into the computer's memory as soon as the computer is switched on. For example- COPY, DEL,...
The Amber Room
Three hundred years ago, there was a great treasure, which was built by human hands. It is called the Amber Room. Art experts from Germany said it should be the 8th wonder of world due to its beauty. History, when recorded, is evidence that shows that the past actually happened. However, the Amber Room did not have the fate to stay in a physical form and became one of the interesting mysteries of the century. Many researchers are interested to discover the mystery of the Amber Room, however the mystery is still under the veil of mystery. It is because of “misplacing” due to World War II. It has a huge contribution to the interesting mystery. Although, the turmoil of World War II caused the beauty to be hidden, there also are other contributions to the mystery.
Amber is a valuable element that is the solidified sap of evergreen trees. Amber comes from tree resin that was fossilized. Mostly, it always has some kind of ancient insects trapped in the fossilized sap that is preserved in good condition. Therefore, amber comes from more than 50 million years ago. Amber is very easily melted in fire; once it is heated it melts like honey, turning into a thick liquid.
The story of the Amber Room begins in the year of 1701. The first piece of the Amber Room was the altar. The order to build the...
...During the summer months of 1996, a young girl, Amber Hagerman was riding her bike down the neighborhood streets in Arlington, Texas. Only nine years old, she was abducted by a white or Hispanic man driving a dark truck, while Amber was screaming for her life. Neighbors who witnessed the kidnapping called 911 reporting that she had been pulled off of her bike and thrown into a random male’s truck. After extensive searches through woods, waterways and other possible hiding spots, Amber’s body was found four days later in Northern Arlington. Autopsy reports stated that she had to have been held for two days before she was murdered and that she had been molested while being held captive (Examiners, 2013). To this day, Amber’s killer is still free and no recent leads have been brought to the attention of Arlington Police. The unknown male is responsible for kidnapping, aggravated sexual abuse, murder and molestation. Unlike other cases, a system more or less was set up because of the Amber Hagerman case, not so much a general law. The Amber Alert is an emergency response system that covers a myriad of information about a missing person (which is usually a child) by media broadcasting, electronic highway signs and message boards like the gas stations and drug stores use (Dictionary). I believe that the creation of Amber Alert has the desired affect because it is simply a response system. It was designed to...
MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) is a single-user, single-tasking computer
operating system that uses a command line interface (CLI).
It also works as an interpreter between user and computer.
The term DOS can refer to any operating system, but it is most often used as shorthand
for MS-DOS (Microsoft disk operating system). Originally developed by Microsoft for
IBM, MS-DOS was the standard operating system for IBM-compatible personal
The initial versions of DOS were very simple and resembled another operating system
called CP/M. Subsequent versions have became increasingly sophisticated as they
incorporated features of minicomputer operating systems. However, DOS is still a 16-bit
operating system and does not support multiple users or multitasking.
For some time, it has been widely acknowledged that DOS is insufficient for modern
computer applications. Microsoft Windows helped alleviate some problems, but still, it
sat on top of DOS and relied on DOS for many services. Even Windows 95 sat on top of
DOS. Newer operating systems, such as Windows NT and OS/2 Warp, do not rely on
DOS to the same extent, although they can execute DOS-based programs. It is expected
that as these operating systems gain market share, DOS will eventually disappear. In the
meantime, Caldera, Inc. markets a version of DOS called DR-OpenDOS that extends MSDOS in significant ways.
MS-DOS ( /ˌɛmɛsˈdɒs/ EM-es-DOSS; short for Microsoft Disk Operating System) is an operating system for x86-based personal computers. It was the most commonly used member of the DOS family of operating systems, and was the main operating system for IBM PC compatible personal computers during the 1980s to the mid 1990s, until it was gradually superseded by operating systems offering a graphical user interface (GUI), in particular by various generations of the Microsoft Windows operating system.
MS-DOS grew from a 1981 request by IBM for an operating system for its IBM PC range of personal computers. Microsoft quickly bought the rights to QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System), also known as 86-DOS, from Seattle Computer Products, and began work on modifying it to meet IBM's specification. The first edition, MS-DOS 1.0, was launched in 1982. The version shipped with IBM's PCs was called PC DOS. Although MS-DOS and PC DOS were initially developed in parallel by Microsoft and IBM, the two products eventually went their separate ways.
During its life, several competing products were released for the x86 platform, and MS-DOS itself would go through eight versions, until development ceased in 2000. Ultimately it was the key product in Microsoft's growth from a programming languages company to a diverse software development firm, providing the company with essential revenue...
