Text Preview Jihadism has many different meanings as well as a very complex belief system. It has been around for centuries and during that time has experienced many changes. Jihadism in simple terms is the people trying to protect their land and power, yet gain both at the same time. Jihadism was mainly reinforced with the Soviet Afghanistan war in 1997. Just as the Patriots did towards the British in the American Revolution. Jihadism is far more complicated than the group of Patriots, due to the fact that Jihadism has strict rules. Many so-called Jihadist’s do not go by these rules. Here is some background knowledge on Jihadism; The first concept of Jihadism began when the early Muslims were forced out of their homeland by their enemies. They were later given permission by God that they could fight those who forced them from their homeland. However, more importantly, they were not given permission to fight other people just because they did not believe in their faith. They were told to only wage war on those who drove them from their homes because of their religion. The act of not following all of the rules is a key factor in why the world views Jihadism as a bad thing. In fact many terrorist organizations, take their cause and put it under the Jihadism label. Take for instance Al-Qaeda, with their world renowned attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. It is clearly mentioned in Arabic that Jihadist cannot harm civilians, children or even infrastructure. These terrorist are quoting the Koran to promote their own agendas. These said people are what are known as extremists. This is obviously happening in the Middle East where these extremists are taking control of the education of the youth in the third world countries. They do so by telling the youth what they think the Koran is saying. They trick the youth into believing what they think is their purpose in life from God.
