“In Persuasion Nation”
“In Persuasion Nation” by George Saunders is an extremely interesting read. I think that this book is the most fun book that I have every read. When I read “In Persuasion Nation” I felt like the formality of normal story writing is very minimal due to unique sentence structure, the vocabulary choice, and the tone of the essay. To start off, the sentence structure of “In Persuasion Nation” is very short and they really convey the emotion of the person who is saying it. For example, in “Adams” the sentence structure is short, it also shows the emotion of George who is very quick in his decisions. The vocabulary choice is also interesting, for instance, in “Adams” George Saunders use the word “wonk” to convey the action of hitting, he could have use any other words like: smacks, hits, slaps, but he decides to choose the word “wonk”, and as a result, I think this is really clever because it makes the tone of the essay very comical overall. Another aspect of the book that makes it so unique is the tone of the stories. The stories possess a very informal tone, a tone of two friends talking to each other at a bar, George Saunders communicate to the audience in a very “friendly” way, and this make the stories less mundane to read. “In persuasion Nation” is a book where George Saunders uses the stories to talk about the events that happen around the world. For example, in “Adams” Saunders is referring to the 9/11 attack, and how the United States has to strike preemptively instead of waiting to be attack again. Adam in the story is being compared to Sadam Hussein, George is being compared to George W. Bush, and the neighbors that agreed with George is compared to the United Nation. When I read the story for the first time I did not know that George Saunders was writing the story based on the 9/11 event, only after we have explained it in class that I began to realize the parallelism between the two. Every communicator aims to gain different and desired results. For example, sales people, politicians, and leaders in other areas all have different goals and audiences, but use persuasion to their benefit.
Cult leaders and other extremists in history have used persuasion to immerse followings and gain social loyalty. Over time they have evolved with different religious, political, and revolutionary motives. A cult by definition is a small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous. They are typically characterized by their distinct beliefs and rituals related to devotion to a god or person, are isolated from their surrounding “evil culture,” and have a charismatic leader (Myers, 252). These charismatic leaders of will use persuasion to influence the intentions, attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and motivations of different individuals (Thoms and Walden, 2007).

There are many of us who constantly assume that teenagers are overall just trouble makers, that their up to no good, and that sex, alcohol and drugs are all they think about. Yes, this is a common fact but do you ever think about the positive that comes out of teenagers, if there is any? Society has influenced many around the world to label teenagers. As I analyze my research, I will find the answer to does positive persuasion exist in teenagers? As far as the word persuasion, it will be defined and discussed in terms of sight and sound. The idea of teenagers persuading adults and parent/teen relationships will be examined. Along with are they positive relationships or negative. In order for me to prove this, I researched several different scholarly sources and one primary source. I interviewed an individual in my life and connected my story to this paper, analyzing myself with several stories I came across. These sources help compare everyday teens to one another.

3. In order not to harm your image you want to stay away from words with negative connotations.
4. If you are presenting your argument with misspelled words and using words in the wrong way in will diminish you credibility.

Persuasion: to persuade or of being persuaded to do or believe in something, is a term Austen has used in various ways within ‘Persuasion’. Through the robust characterisations of characters and the dynamics of their situations and relationships, Austen moulds conclusions in how we are persuaded and why we are turned to believe in something different. In how the characters are persuaded or in differed to others suggestions, Austen exemplifies and asks whether it is better to be firm in one's convictions or to be open to the suggestions of others. If I want to be a good persuader and speaker, I should consider the way that let audiences know I will let them learn something from the presentation. In fact, the purpose of most public presentation is to convey valuable information, whether the audience can accept the valuable information is depended on whether the speech is persuasive or not. In Jane Austen’s novel Persuasion, diction and subversive tone depict Austen’s disdain and disapproval towards the society. Sir Walter Elliot informs Anne and Mr. Shepherd about his irritation toward people who strive to rise above the society. He mentions how naval officer is a profession that transits “man with obscure birth into undue distinction” (Austen 14), and expresses his disgust towards the officers growing old in appearance sooner than any other man. Sir Walter declared, “I was in company with two men… Admiral Baldwin, the most deplorable looking personage you can imagine… I never saw quite so wretched an example of what a seafaring life can do…” (Austen 14). Austen implies the superficial nobilities like Sir Walter Elliot who insist trivial matters such as appearance supplant other elements of a man.
