DEDICATION

I dedicate all this to my loving husband, our sons Rickens and Adams for their financial and moral support in furthering my studies.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I greatly acknowledge a number of individuals who have made successful contribution to my academic life as a whole and to this research I particular.

First and foremost, I must give thanks to the GOD Almighty for his faithfulness to me and for sustaining me this far in my course. All glory be to Him.

My special thanks go to my teacher/Supervisor Paul Abuonji for his guidance and encouragement during the study. I am equally indebted to my loving and caring husband Abel and our sons Rickens and Adams for the valuable time and encouragement.

I am sincere and special thanks to the staff and management of KEMRI/CDC for their support during the period of data collection and for being there for me for clarifications and guidance.

ABSTRACT

The study investigated the challenges facing organizations with information management systems. It mainly focused on KEMRI/CDC. The main question of the study was to determine if an Information Management System enhances organizational efficiency. The study was conducted through case study using a sample of fifteen drawn from a population of Eight hundred and forty.

Data was collected using questionnaires and oral interviews. Interviewing was however used to supplement the questionnaire method and particularly in areas where clarifications were sought. A major reason for employing these two methods was convenience and the time factor, given that the section was such a busy one and sparing extra time for extraneous exercises could not be feasible.

Data was analyzed by the use of tables and graphs. This made the reading and comprehending of the information contained easier. One of the major findings revealed that use of a well managed information system leads to production efficiency and a coordinated teamwork. It further revealed the need for training staff on the many new developments in various aspects that touch on information and security. Number of words used (3734 words)
