Minimum wage is the lowest wage permitted by law or by a speciel agreement. Advantages of a legal minimum wage:
It should prevent strong employers from exploiting unskilled workers who could not easily find another job As many unskilled workers will be receiving higher wages, it might encourage employers to train them to make sure that they are more productive. It will encourage more people to seek work. There should be fewer shortages of workers. Low-paid workers will earn more and will be able to afford to spend more.
Disadvantages of a legal minimum wage:
It increase business costs which will force them to increase prices. Some employers will not be able to afford these wage rates. They may make workers redundant instead. Unemployment may rise. Other workers receiving just above the minimum level may ask for higher wages to keep the same differential between themselves and lower paid workers. Business costs will again increase.
Health and safety laws in the workplace is extremely important, not only because it protects employees, but also because productivity increases when workers are happy and healthy. It makes sure that all employers are protected from dangerous machinery, provide safety equipment and clothing, maintain reasonable workplace temperatures, provide hygienic conditions and washing facilities and do not insist on excessively long shifts and provide breaks in the work timetable.
A) No I don't as she lived up to the requirements and didn't get the things agreed. She did not receive a contract of employment as promised after one month trial. B) Dear Manager
As Gowri's legal adviser, I find the dismissal and treatment of my client very unacceptable. If Gowri has stolen from the workplace or anything like that, dismissal would be reasonable, but that is not the case here. A dismissal for joining a trade union is very unfair and if you kept your promises, she didn't even had to join one. As a business you are not allowed...
The Bear Minimum
Big Bear Power (Big Bear) is a widely held public utility company that has posted strong
financial results for several years. Big Bear has positive cash flow, and it is in compliance
with all its debt covenants. Big Bear leases a combustion turbine from Goliath Co.
(Goliath) for a 10-year noncancelable term. The lease agreement is signed on December
15, 2010, and Big Bear’s right to use the turbine begins on January 1, 2011. Various
provisions and other facts from the lease are listed below.
Big Bear pays Stipe, Berry, Mills and Buck LLP, its external legal counsel, $500,000 in
connection with negotiating the lease agreement. Big Bear is also required to pay $1
million of legal fees incurred by Goliath.
The stated default provisions in the lease stipulate that Big Bear must purchase the
combustion turbine from Goliath (at a price equal to the remaining lease payments)
within 30 days if a “change in control” event occurs. Additionally, Big Bear would be
required to pay a penalty of $500,000. A “change in control” event is defined under the
lease as either (1) a situation in which a person or entity becomes the beneficial owner,
directly or indirectly, of 50 percent or more of the outstanding voting shares of Big Bear
or (2) a situation in which Big Bear merges with another entity. As of the inception of the
lease, Big Bear does not expect a “change in control” event to occur during the term of

...Both McDonald's Corporations and Burger King Corporation operate in the highly competitive and growing fast food industry. In a fierce battle to capture market share both companies operate in an environment of tight controls and clearly defined operations strategies. While McDonald's has opted to offer a standardized product to its customers, Burger King has attempted to capture market share by offering its customers the flexibility to customize. The advertising slogans, Have It Your Way by Burger King vs We Do It All For You by McDonalds explains the difference in production methods. Therefore, the operational strategy has direct implications on the process flow, the output, the human resource management and the bottom line of each company.
McDonald's uses a batch process to cook hamburgers (Exhibit A). Using a batch process means that the speed of delivery is dependent upon the speed and experience of the individual worker. Hamburgers are cooked on a large platen, in batches of up to twelve. Two or more batches may be on the platen at one time, in various stages of cooking. This means that a worker is required to manage the grill exclusively during rush hours. The hamburgers are hand-seared after 20 seconds on the grill, turned at 60 seconds, and pulled at 100 seconds. While the hamburgers are cooking, buns are toasted (55 seconds) the crown of the bun is dressed and condiments are added. When the hamburgers come off the grill, workers complete the hamburger as per the...
