Text Preview "America" also known as "They're Coming to America" is the name of a patriotic song and poem written by Neil Diamond in 1980. The song was a tribute to the immigration in America, where people from all over the world were welcome to come and seek opportunity. “America” is the title of the poem and is an extensive term with both great importance denotations and connotations. The title “America” does not only speak of the country which is the denotation, but it does also refer to a semantic meaning of the history of immigration and nationalistic which incorporates connotations such as liberty in patriotism. Striking features occur as words are neatly organized into stanzas of equal length where words often are repeated. This repeating effect emphasize and intensify the actual meaning and therefor makes it plain to see for the reader or listener that it only takes few words to describe the significance of the text. The poem takes place in America and talks for any American or immigrant. Neil Diamond has a background as an immigrant because his mom and dad were immigrants. Neil addresses all Ameri-can people like himself and his family, among other people who are grateful for the opportunity for letting them make a new home in America. Neil seems to direct the reader or listener to tribute America jointly. A closer inspection to the setting of the speaker is important because Neil sings “We've been travelling far” and not “I’ve been travelling far”. He sings for all the concerning in the immigration and assimilation Paraphrase the text:

Because they left everything they had behind, the migrants had no home other than the ship they were sailing on. Many sold all of their belongings and left family and friends behind. “But not without a star”
