Preventing 9/11: Could it Have Been Done?
September 11th, 2001: the American people will remember this day as the day the unthinkable happened: someone, or rather a group of people, infiltrated the seemingly impregnable American defenses and turned our own airplanes on us. Crashing several planes into different important federal buildings, these terrorists spread terror throughout the country. Nobody thought that the most powerful country in the world could be attacked so easily, and without any warning. This raises an interested question. Were these attacks really done out of the blue? Or were they a foreseen danger that the government simply ignored, or delayed action against. A deeper look behind the scenes both before and after the attacks will reveal whether or not the leaders of our country shirked their responsibilities of keeping us safe, or simply failed in their attempts to stop any potential attacks from occurring. By looking first at how the attacks were planned and carried out, then looking at the numerous reports that government intelligence agencies, principally the CIA and FBI, had ample warning and information to have better prepared the country, it will become clear whether or not the attacks could have been prevented, and if so, whether it was the government's fault.
On October 12th, 2000, the USS Cole, a United States ship located near the Aden port in Yemen was pulling into the harbor to refuel (USS Cole History). As the ship was fueling up, a small fiberglass boat pulled up alongside it. The boat, full of explosives, detonated next to the Cole, leaving a massive hole in the side ("USS Cole Bombing," Wikipedia). The blast killed 17 soldiers, and injured numerous others ("USS Cole Bombing," Wikipedia). This attack seemed random at first, but in fact, it had been planned out for some time. Even worse, writes Rory O'Connor, the US government allegedly had information that such an attack might occur, and had neglected to pass along the information to the commander of the Cole (O'Connor 1). Intelligence analysts from the military have testified that the presence of al-Qaeda in Yemen was very well known, including by highly ranking officials in CENTCOM (Central Command), the division that dealt directly with the USS Cole (O'Connor 1). Had the commander of the USS Cole known about the presence of al-Qaeda in the area, it is almost a certainty that he and his crew would have been more vigilant in being wary of any potential danger. Of course, this did not happen because the government failed to inform them. The absence of any warning on the part of the US government would prove to be a mistake fatal to more than 3000 people.
September 11th, 2001 was a warm, sunny day in New York City. There were only a few clouds and the day had an upbeat feeling to it. Unfortunately, the optimistic air wouldn't even make it to 9 AM. At 8:46 AM, this horrific image played itself out above New York City: a plane that had taken off that morning from Logan Airport in Boston flew not towards its destination on the west coast, but rather directly into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. As the plane, full of fuel for it's cross-country journey, collided with the building and exploded, the thousands of people walking the streets stopped what they were doing and looked up in terror. At this time, the general opinion was that it was a tragic error by the pilot. That thought would be proven wrong a matter of minutes later.
9:01 AM. The sky above New York City is full of debris falling from the gigantic hole in the side of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. There is fear amongst the citizens, but not many people suspect an attack. Then, seeming to move slowly but in reality hurtling through the air, a second plane collides with the South Tower. At this point, everyone knows that America is under attack. Whom is attacking, no one knows, but there is no longer any thought of an accidental crash. A matter...
...Pennsylvania after passengers fought back against the terrorists to try and regain control of the plane. This is the story the government wanted its people to believe. However, the truths about the attacks on 9/11 are much more frightening.
First, at 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade Center’s North Tower in New York City, between floors 93 and 99 going 466 mph. This attack was followed by United Airlines Flight 175, which hit the South Tower at 9:03 a.m. between floors 77 and 85 going 590 mph. Firefighters were dispersed immediately and went inside to try and control the fires. Now why would these firefighters risk their lives and climb up numerous flights of stairs to try and control the fires? Because they knew that these steel buildings were strong and sturdy (Palisner). Never in history has a steel-framed skyscrapers collapsed from fire, since they are built from steel that does not melt below 2750 degrees Fahrenheit. The official story by the 9/11 Commission Report stated that fire weakened the towers which causes them to collapse. Jet fuel burned so hot that it melted the steel columns supporting the towers. Jet fuel, which is just refined kerosene, will burn no hotter than 1500 degrees Fahrenheit (One Nation America Remembers September 11, 2001).
Next, the towers collapsed. If the jet fuel did weaken the structure of the towers then...

On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, the biggest terror attack in the history of the United States of America took place. The attacks killed almost 3,000 people and caused at least $10 billion worth of damage to the property and buildings! It was completely unexpected and was a devastating incident to the United States as a nation. It destroyed the twin towers, as well as damaging the pentagon, and a failed attack against the white house. The attack was caused by nineteen hijackers, on four different planes, three of which hit their targets. It was a tragic day in American history.
The attack was planned and carried out by the Al-Qaeda terror group. Initially the group denied involvement, but then as time went on they admitted to having been behind the attacks. Some of the reasons the listed for the attacks were: Us support of Israel, because of attacks against Muslims in Russia, Somalia, and the Middle East, and against the US troops in Saudi Arabia, and the US sanctions against Iraq. This led to one of the largest manhunts in the world, for Al-Qaeda’s leader, Osama Bin Laden. The manhunt lasted for ten years before he was caught and killed.
This was an attack that would change the United States forever. It created a reason for the security and anti-terror measures that we have today. It is the reason why...
...Attack in New York
2,996 people were killed in the tragic accident of September 11, 2001 (How Many People Died in 9/11). Many people died because of two airplanes that got hijacked and hit the well known Twin Towers in New York. New York’s horrible accident caused a lot of chaos, disaster and broken families, yet many ask these questions “What was 9/11? What happened in 9/11? Who was Osama bin Laden? How did it happen? Why did it happen? And what were the consequences or results of this tragedy?” Therefore, the tragedy of September 11, 2001 had many causes, effects and security changes for the United States.
This is one of the questions that were asked “what was 9/11?”. Well, 9/11 was an event that happened in New York. “New York’s well known twin towers got attacked by four different airplanes on September 11th of 2001. The building collapsed”(What was 9/11). These buildings were being attacked by a group of terrorist in Iraq. This group involved Osama bin Laden and members of the Al-Qaeda group. Residences of New York were terribly affected by this horrific terrorist attack. So many peoples’ lives had changed and it was not even the afternoon yet so many people died. Mothers, fathers, children, firemen were killed with this one attack.
Osama bin Laden was first asked...
...World Trade Center Attack
September 11, 2001 was not just any ordinary day for the citizens of the United States and the city of New York, but a devastating attack that has put us all in shock and fear. As all of you know, the Tuesday that this country was ambushed and attacked destructively by terrorists, was one of the saddest days America has ever seen. Not only did it affect the people that were in the World Trade Center Towers and the loved ones who unfortunately passed away, but it affected our country as a whole. Scared, devastated, astonished, and surprised are just a few words that begin to describe September 11th. As separate states and people, I can confidently say that America has never been closer together as one than on that day of the attack. As most of you know, two of the planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. As a citizen of the United States, I can say that 9/11 affected not only me, but everyone due to the tragic amount of people lost, and the horrible devastation of terrorism. To find this information, it wasn’t too hard because I’ve been learning about the tragedy for about eleven years now. First, I’ll discuss what actually went down on September 11th and the techniques. Second, I’ll examine the damage and recovery involved...
...“The planes were hijacked, the buildings fell, and thousands of lives were lost nearly a thousand miles from here. But the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were an attack on the heart of America” (Newman). For every cause there is an effect, and unfortunately the effects of 9/11 are disturbing. I like to say that everything happens for a reason, and the reasons of 9/11 still continue to puzzle the people today. The attacks on world trade center and pentagon on September 11 2001 were tragic and devastating not only for the victims, but all the people of United States of America. The tragic losses will forever haunt the mind of who ever lived to witness this heartbreaking event. On the Tuesday morning of September 11th, 2001, 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger jets. The hijackers intentionally flew two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City; both towers collapsed within two hours. The hijackers also intentionally crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the other plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after its passengers attempted to take control of the jet from the hijackers. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks, including all 227 civilians and...
...phone calls, the funerals of the children.” He had no idea how precise his words were more than a decade later. It has been about twelve years since 9/11 and for many people it seems like just yesterday when they witnessed the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center tumbling to the ground, United Airlines Flight 93 hurtling into a meadow in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the abysmal hole left behind at the Pentagon after the impact of American Airlines Flight 77. Countless people lost family members or knew someone who did. However, whether or not you lost one of the 2,996 victims, everyone felt the singe left behind by the sinister and corrupt events that transpired that fateful day. Although the terrorist attacks affected everyone in ways we cannot imagine, by learning more about the origins of 9/11, we can comprehend the perplexing situation and possibly find a way to safeguard lives to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again.
Many people have some understanding as to why it happened, but no matter how much we absorb, more questions arise in our consciousness. What made those terrorists take countless innocent lives while taking their own lives in the process of their heinous act? After 9/11, Americans were shocked that terrorists could hijack planes and destroy buildings and be responsible for the incredible loss of life....

The Truth Behind Lies
September 11, 2001 is the most tragic day in America's history. These attacks were a series of United Airlines plane hijackings by Al-Qaeda radicals. Two planes hit the twin towers, one hit the pentagon, and another was aimed to hit either the White House or Capital Building but was crashed prematurely. Although the death count is not an exact number, it is estimated to be around three thousand people. There are many conspiracies surrounding this tragic event, which claim this attack was not one committed by terrorists, but by the United States government. Motifs for a staged attack would be to justify the invasion of Middle Eastern countries for geostrategic reasons. Healthy skepticism is expected when an event of this magnitude occurs but to completely put this off as an inside job is simply naïve. September 11, 2001 was a terrorist attack planned by radical leader, Osama Bin Laden, not a conspiracy by America's government, and there is plenty of information to prove it.
Conspiracy theorists make rash claims and provide their listeners with half facts when the entire truth has been unveiled. They lack credibility and see only what they wish to see while ignoring the blatantly obvious facts that are right in front of them. Many reasons havebeen given as to why this was an inside job, such as a lack of...
