Text Preview America after September 11, 2001
On September 11, 2001 a very sad historical event occurred. Four planes were hijacked by terrorists. Two of the airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City. The third plane was crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The last plane was going to crash into another building in Washington, D.C., but the passengers stopped the hijackers, and the plane crashed into a field instead. These events changed American culture in the way we operate our country. Before 9/11 America was not prepared for any event of this stature. There was an increase in military operations, the Global War on Terrorism, chaos amongst Muslim American citizens as well as an increase in economic measures which eventually resulted in a recession. The effects on Muslim Americans were eminent as a result of the terrorists being Muslims. Having to deal to deal with threats, prejudices and stereotypes on a daily basis Many Muslims had to deal with the pain of being shunned by their fellow Americans. As well as attacked, there was a surge in incidents of harassment and hate crimes against Middle Easterners and others thought to be peopleis challenged in recent months with a growing anti-Islam and anti-Muslim bigotry sparked. In the event of the terror attacks of September 11, George bush declared to the American people a new foreign policy that would be the best way to respond to terror. The Bush Doctrine has never been formally been given that name by George W. Bush himself but the 4 key elements are to prevent war, confront weapons of mass destruction. Americans stocked up on food and water, and bought things like generators and guns/rifles. Immigration came to a standstill due to the new Foreign Policy.
